Who Has the Best Gym Reviews in Los Angeles?

We think we have some of them.

Yelp reviews can be pretty harsh. Business owners bemoan the fact that a bad review really can have a negative effect on everyday business. On the other side of the coin, a good review helps the business and help other customers who are looking for great local products, stores, and services to serve their needs.

Well, WilFit is doing well in this arena. In fact, WilFit is in Yelp’s Top 4 List for Best High End Gyms in Los Angeles.

So we thought we’d share some of our best reviews. Ones that really spotlight the WilFit spirit. Look for our commentary below each testimonial.

“Awesome gym!!! I’ve been looking for a gym for awhile now and found this one. Went and took a look at it and signed up immediately. Good location in mid koreatown. They validate your parking ticket up to three hours and best part of this gym is they provide workout clothes. Lots of equipment and its clean and feels good to work out there.”

Natalie S. – Los Angeles, CA

Dear Natalie, we are thrilled you finally found a gym!

“WilFit is one of the best gyms that i have been to. I work close by which makes it convenient. All of the machines are well spaced out and brand new. Everything is kept clean and in case you weren’t planning on working out, they have shorts, t-shirts and towels available at all times.  All of the equipment is state of the art and very clean. Also, they have many trainers who are well qualified and work very hard to train people to their specific needs.”

J. L. – Los Angeles, CA

J.L., thanks for pointing out our Personal Trainers. They are well qualified! Some of our Certified Personal Trainers are Natural Bodybuilding Champions. Others are Nutritionists. Many are world class athletes and martial artists. HiYa!!

“Cardio core and power abs classes are no joke! I’ve been gym shopping for……i dunno….say, 3 years? And this is by far the best gym in LA-clean, affordable and classes are all two thumbs up!”

Victoria H. – Los Angeles, CA

Victoria, your 3 year search for the perfect gym has finally paid off. You persevered. You knew that somewhere out there was the holy grail of “clean & affordable”. And your abs are looking good. Best gym in LA? We’re blushing.

“I prepaid for a years membership at Wilfit after testing it out for a month.  I think of it as a cross between an LA Fitness/24 Hour Fitness and a more costly gym like Equinox.  It’s a two story complex with most all the machines and weights I need.  Plus the crowd there is very zen, which is a big plus.  Ken the manager took great care of us and I felt like we got a deal.”

Chad S. – Los Angeles, CA

Here’s the thing, Chad. Those other gyms are great too. We do fancy ourselves the more affordable Equinox. We’re listed on Yelp right behind them in reviews for High End gyms. But lets not compare apple and oranges. Let’s juice them. In our Organic Juice Bar!

“I joined Wilfit a couple months ago and really love it! Although it is more expensive than 24 Hour Fitness, it’s totally worth it if you’re looking for a cleaner, less crowded alternative.”

Ellen S. –  Los Angeles, CA

Ellen, a lot of customers come to us asking about the price. We do have special deals if you sign up with friends or if you pay for a year. But like you, we’ve found that our rates cover the costs for cleaner facilities, better equipment, amazing classes and world class trainers.

“Recently relocated I bought a place in Hancock Park and was schlepping to Equinox and losing time in the a.m., decided to change the routine and become a local. This gym is perfect for me and what I require, location – locker etc. I can opt for a private locker towel service to laundry , like my old sports club L.A. …”

Patrick, welcome to the neighborhood. We’re glad we’re living up to your standards. And that we’re conveniently located for you!

“I’ve always despised going to the gym until I came to WilFit.”

Esther Y. –  North Hills, Los Angeles, CA

That’s it, Esther. You made our day. We didn’t know it till now, but perhaps decreasing the amount of gym-despising people in the world is our higher calling.

“With the new year starting, I decided to start working out again. I first checked out M-Fitness (their competitor) on the west side of ktown. This place kicks M-fitness to the curb.”

Michael C. –  Los Angeles, CA

Hey, hey! Calm down, Michael. This is not a competition. We hope you’ll simply look at us as the “best gym for you”.  Maybe there is no “perfect one” out there. There are many fish in the sea. It’s just about finding that fish that you can love. And can truly love you back. We are that fish, Michael.

The Skinny on Fat- Omega 3s and Fitness

Did you know not all fat is bad for you?

Personal trainers, world class athletes, and nutritionists alike know that a certain type of fat is actually good for you.

They’re called Omega 3 Fatty Acids. This naturally occurring type of fat is found in avocados, walnuts, flax seeds, and  fish, amongst other whole foods. The two main types of this fat are EPA and DHA.

Omega 3 fats are great for the brain and the heart, providing you with the right type of cholesterol (the good kind).

Why are omega 3 fats good for fitness training and bodybuilding?

Omega 3 fats have been shown to increase blood flow during workouts and can decrease post-workout muscle soreness by up to 35%. Omega 3 fats decrease swelling and quicken the muscle repair process.

Omega 3s also increase your body’s insulin sensitivity, making it easier for your muscles to burn fat, rather than store it.

Healthy fats are a great way to fuel your workout  whether it consists of cardio or weight training.

Bodybuilders, indoor cycling buffs, and yoga/pilates fans will all benefit  from an increase in omega 3 fats.

Sadly, most people are omega 3-deficient. Why?

In traditional times people ate more unprocessed plant-based fats. In addition, most animals (cows, sheep, goats, chickens etc.) fed on natural grass and herbs €”or small animals that were doing so. Salmon get their omega 3s from smaller algae-eating fish.

The introduction of simple animal feed derived from nutrient-lacking corn or soy actually changed the fat content of many foods we eat.

How to increase omega 3’s in your diet for enhanced fitness and bodybuilding training/recovery.

Various omega 3 supplements are on the market these days. Most are derived from fish oils, but you can also find vegetarian DHA and EPA supplements made from flax seed oil or algae.

Make sure to up your intake of avocados, walnuts, flax seeds, and blueberries. Try to go for wild salmon, cold-water fish, or grass-fed varieties of meat. You can also get omega 3-fortified eggs at most markets these days that come from.

Stop by WilFit – Koreatown Los Angeles’s best high-end gym and natural bodybuilding training facility. Talk to our Personal Trainers, many of whom have training in both nutrition and fitness.

WilFit now provides supplements that you can purchase right in the gym. And don’t forget our Organic Juice Bar, brought to you by Oppa Juicery, where you can find nutrient-dense organic juices and smoothies to fuel your workout or help with recovery.

WilFit Personal Training Tips- How To Do a Bodyweight Squat

Squats are core ingredient to a full-body fitness.

They work the hips, glutes, quads, and hamstrings, and sneakily strengthen the core.

Squats also improve balance and coordination—not to mention, help maintain bone density (a must for women and older fitness fanatics).

At the gym, you might want to do squats with weights. But if you’re out for a run at the park, never fear. Bodyweight squats are very effective.

Bodyweight Squats:

1. Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, hips over knees, knees over ankles.
2. Roll the shoulders back and down. Don’t let the back round out, this stresses the lower back. Maintain a straight & neutral spine alignment throughout the squat.
3. Extend arms out straight, parallel with the ground, palms facing down.
4. Initiate the squat by inhaling, unlocking the hips and bringing them slightly back. Keep sending hips back as your knees bend.
5. When the butt starts to stick out, make sure your chest and shoulders stay upright, and your back stays straight. Keep the head facing forward, eyes gazing forward for straight for a neutral spine.
6. Good squats are deep—if you can comfortably handle it. Optimal squat depth would be your hips sinking below the knees, if you feel flexible and strong enough.
7. Put bodyweight in the heels, engage your core, and explode back up to standing, driving through heels into the ground. You can visualize the feet are spreading the floor, without actually moving the feet.

Once you master the bodyweight squat, move on to using weights.
